All serial numbers from 91000 to 161999 were made in 1898 and are considered Antiques. The model number discrepancy is due to the model numbers being linked to the Fiscal Year, which began in July, not January, so July 1898 was considered fiscal year 1899. According to records, there were 5001 Model 1898 Carbines and 5150 Model 1899 carbines produced in 1898, with none being produced in 1899. Springfield Armory had ramped up production for the Spanish-American war, and produced around 72,000 Springfield Krag–Jørgensen arms that year.
